A night of roasted garlic

What do you do when you have five varieties of roasted garlic? Have a tasting of course.

Raw tastings are preferred by garlic purists but we opted to roast the garlic and serve with a few sides. We roasted a head each of Leningrad, Yi Chang, Killarney Red, Siberian, and Inchelium and the crowd favorites were Yi Ching and Siberian for their smooth and mild flavors. Perhaps next time we’ll offer a raw tasting as well.

An early harvest and sustainable mulch

A July visit and we were ready to help with any chore dished out. The garlic was doing well except for one of the new varieties which was rotting a bit. It deemed the best thing to do was harvest the two rows of this variety now and see how it does once dried.

Weather wise this was the first real taste of summer and the garden was behind in its typical size. We took this sunny opportunity to transfer the sheep hay to the garden to act as mulch.

We were blessed with clear skies and plenty of extra hands to harvest this years crop. We managed to extricate and layout all the garlic in one day. Excellent!
